Costume for a cyber space performance in an international cooperation
17 december 2020
Omgjord was asked to make the costume for a dance performance in a multidisciplinary collaborative project across national borders. The focus of Omgjord's work was the black party costumes redesigned from already used jackets and skirts. With inspiration from space, 60s, captain costumes and distinctive colors and patterns, exaggerated shoulder pads with wings in African wax fabric and matching belt were added. The skirts are mainly redesigned to be dance-friendly.
The show was written before Corona, but is extremely relevant today with our fear of viruses, skin contact and ecosystem collapse.
Our work process has also been corona safe and as sustainable as possible, given that the dancers live in Finland and Danmark. I asked them to procure a used black jacket and skirt in the right size and send to me. I have redesigned them and mailed them back.
Thursday 17/12 was the premiere, through a corona-safe live-streamed performance in Tampere Finland.
In Between II: The name of us is Luborg is a multi-layered speculative experience of body, music and poetry.

easy piece collaboratory at fiberspace gallery
05-08 december 2019
Omgjord was invited to participate in a festival on sustainable clothing consumption. "Can one garment save the world?". The task for the exhibitors was to interpret the Easy piece pattern (see picture below). Omgjords' contribution was to convert an old wool blanket into a warm sweater using the addition of african print fabric purchased in Senegal. A hat and leg warmers were made of the remaining wool pieces. During the weekend, a panel debate was held on sustainable clothing consumption and workshops were organized to dye naturally without poisons and to sew easy pieces.
